ESSA

FEDERAL FUNDING REQUIREMENTS

With the start of the new school year and as your child’s elementary principal, I am required by the Nebraska Department of Education to notify all parents concerning certain policies that our school follows. These requirements are a reflection of the new Every Student Succeeds Act which replaced the former No Child Left Behind.

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) outlines the parental rights to request the professional qualities of the student’s classroom teacher. As parents of children attending East Elementary, you can feel confident that every single one of our classroom teachers are considered highly qualified certified teachers.

In addition, ESSA requires that I inform you that our District has adopted Board policy #6211 which outlines our district-wide assessment procedures. As your child’s principal, I notify all parents through written communication prior to your child taking any district-wide or state assessment. I had made previous practice of this and will continue to do so as I fully understand the importance of the parent/school partnership.

Although the above information is required through ESSA, I would also like to highlight personally that at East Elementary we care deeply for your child and their success and happiness. We also care for you as parents and encourage you to be involved in your child’s education, assist your child, build their language skills, and help them achieve at high levels within a well-rounded education. Please contact me if I can be of any assistance at all helping develop this relationship between you and your child.

Sincerely,

Sandy Pohl

East Elementary Principal
