Jeffrey Horner, Counselor

I have been a part of the Minden Public Schools team since the fall of 1998 when I started as an English and speech teacher. I also spent three years as the elementary counselor before becoming the high school counselor in the fall of 2007. I also coach speech and one act play and sponsor the senior class and SADD club.


The Minden Education Association is proud to announce the availability of the annual MEA Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to two Minden graduates during the academic year that student teaching occurs.

2019-2020 Application deadline: May 18, 2020

Submit a one-page letter of application to the guidance office at Minden High School including the following information:

  • Name, address, phone number
  • Why you are deserving of this scholarship and your future plans.
  • Attach a transcript, resume and proof of student teaching (for example, a letter from supervisor and/or co-operating teacher) to the letter of application. 


Attached below is an electronic form of the Scholarship Booklet that Mr. Horner spoke to seniors about in their American Government class. This booklet is also available to seniors through the Scholarships 2020 Google classroom. All seniors have been asked to join this classroom. The scholarships in this booklet are the ones that were available LAST YEAR. It gives an idea of what MIGHT be available this year. ACT recommends students take the ACT for the first time in the spring of their junior year. The test is given to all Juniors as a Nebraska State Assessment April. The ACT is also given in Minden in October for any student. Students are free to take it other times it is offered at schools in our area. Minden High School is offering an ACT Test Prep Program free to students. It is the John Baylor Prep program. This program is a well-known and successful ACT prep program. MHS has purchased this program to help students raise their ACT scores.

The program can be used both at school and at home. The website to log in to is ontocollege.com. The log in is the student's school email address. The password is the student's last name (capitalized) along with the student's graduation year. EXAMPLE: Jones2018. If you have any trouble getting logged in, please stop by the counseling office for help.
